L293D Motor Shield

The L293D Motor Drive Shield is an integrated, high voltage, high current, 4-channel driver. This means you can control DC motors and power supplies up to 25 volts, handling substantial motors, with each channel delivering up to 600mA. The L293D is also known as an H-Bridge, a type of electrical circuit that allows voltage to be applied in either direction across a load, such as a motor.

Key features include:

• Servo Interface: Two 5V servo interfaces connected to the Arduino’s high-resolution dedicated timer for jitter-free operation.
• DC Motor Control: Supports up to four bi-directional DC motors with individual 8-bit speed control.
• Stepper Motor Control: Can drive up to two stepper motors (unipolar or bipolar) with single coil, double coil, or interleaved stepping.
• H-Bridges: Four H-Bridges, each providing 0.6A (1.2A peak current) with thermal protection, capable of running motors on 4.5V to 25V DC.

The L293D Dual Motor Shield incorporates two L293D motor drivers and a 74HC595 shift register. The shift register expands the Arduino’s control from 3 to 8 pins for motor direction control. The L293D’s output enable is directly linked to the Arduino’s PWM outputs.
